Diabetes is known as a metabolism disorder. Metabolism is a system, which our body use to digest the food for energy and growth. Diabetes is disease that disturbs the way body uses food for energy. Usually, the sugar we take in food is broken down into a simpler form of sugar known as glucose. Glucose is a type of sugar that present in the blood. Basically glucose is the principal resource of fuel in our bodies.
This glucose is circulates in blood where it stays to enter into the cells, so used as fuel. Insulin is a hormone formed by the pancreas, which helps in moving the glucose into cells. After eating, the pancreas automatically discharges a sufficient amount of insulin to shift the glucose present in our blood into the cells, and controls the blood sugar level. A healthy pancreas regulates the quantity of insulin depends on the level of glucose. But, if you have diabetes, this procedure breaks down, and blood sugar levels go high.
People suffering from diabetes are not capable to use the glucose in their food for energy. The glucose collects in the bloodstream, where it can harm the kidneys, heart, eyes and nerves. If diabetes left untreated than it can develop devastating difficulties. It is one of the main reasons of death and disability.
But the good news is that with appropriate treatment and care, people with diabetes can enjoy normal lives.
There are three main types of diabetes:
Type-1 diabetes is a state in which the pancreas generates very little or no insulin. In this case patient needs to take regular injections of insulin to control and regulate the blood glucose.
Type-2 diabetes is a state in which the pancreas produces insulin but that amount is insufficient to control blood glucose. The type-2 diabetes is the most common type and it is increasing to epidemic proportions.
Gestational Diabetes – This type of diabetes is developed only during pregnancy.
Types 1 & Type 2 Diabetes is chronic medical conditions. Gestational Diabetes generally resolves itself after the birth of the child.
