Indigestion is a common digestive problem. Indigestion is just another name for an upset stomach and it is also known as dyspepsia. Indigestion occurs generally when someone eats too much food or eats too fast, or some foodstuffs that don’t agree with body. Indigestion is a name that explains uneasiness or pain in the upper abdomen. It is not a disease; it is a collection of symptoms which mainly include nausea, bloating and burping. Indigestion is generally caused when stomach acid come into contact with the mucosa of the digestive system (i.e. the sensitive defensive coating of the digestive system). Stomach acids break down the mucosa and causes pain and irritation, which cause the symptoms of indigestion.
Sometimes indigestion can be come with heartburn. Heartburn has nothing to do with heart. Actually it is caused because sometime stomach acid splashing up from the stomach and into the esophagus (the tube that take food from the mouth to the stomach). This situation is called as acid indigestion, and it typically leaves a vinegary or bitter taste in the mouth. Indigestion and heartburn are common problems for people of all ages. It might take place more frequently if patient is smoker, drinking alcohol regularly, or stressed out, or don't get proper sleep.
