Dropsy is more commonly recognized today as Edema or Oedema. Dropsy is gathering of large quantity of extra fluid under the surface of the skin or in some void of the body. Dropsy is not a situation, but it is a symptom of an underlying condition. Swelling is often one of the fundamental reasons for dropsy and it can arise anywhere in the body. Luckily, this disease is curable in most of the situations, unless some simultaneous health problem arises.
Minor, short-term dropsy can be caused by pregnancy or stillness and is hardly ever serious. But, longer and more serious form of dropsy could be an indication of a severe underlying medical disorder, like kidney failure, heart failure or cirrhosis of the liver. Treatment of Dropsy depends on the underlying cause. In some cases physicians may also advised reduced consumption of salt that causes the body to retain water. Sometime lifestyle changes may cure the situation as well as prevent its early occurrence. There are many different forms of Dropsy due to a number of causes.
