Yoga for Diabetes
Diabetes is a state when the pancreas in the human body stops producing insulin. Actually the insulin is the body hormone translates the sugar of the food into energy. Because of inadequate secretion of insulin by pancreas glucose level in the bloodstream increases, which resulting into diabetes. Basic work of blood glucose is to provide energy and fuel to the body, so that body works properly. But if the level of glucose is increases, it ultimately affects the other body parts. Diabetes is of two types pancreatic diabetes or gestational diabetes. 1st type of diabetes is caused due to zero production of insulin and treatment with Yoga is difficult in this case. 2nd type of diabetes caused because of life style and it is basically stress related disease, so it can be successfully treated with Yoga.
There are many type of yoga for diabetes treatment:
Sun Salutation – Sun Salutation is excellent exercise for diabetes sufferer, it amplifies the blood circulation to different parts of body and improves insulin management in the body.
Asanas – Asanas are helpful in treatment of diabetes. Due to different twists, stretches and strains, the internal organs of the body are stretched. This increases the blood circulation, due to that oxygen supply to the organs increases so that efficiency and functioning of the organ also increases. Asanas like Dhanurasana, Sarvangasana, Ardhamatsyendrasana, Yoga Mudra, Vajrasana, Pavan Muktasana, Halasana, Matsyasana have been found helpful in diabetes treatment. These asanas have positive result on pancreas and also insulin performance. But to get best results, one needs to continue the asana for longer period while relaxing the muscles.
Pranayama – One of the fundamental types for Pranayama is alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhan Pranayama). This type is helpful in diabetes as it has calming effect on nervous system because of that stress level is controlled, which helps in diabetes treatment. Also research has revealed that Bhramari and Bhasrika Pranayama also useful in diabetes. Bharamari has relaxing effect on mind, and nervous system. Bhasrika Pranayama is refreshing Pranayama, which raise oxygen levels and control carbon dioxide level in the blood.
Meditation – Particularly for diabetes, attention on pancreas in the meditation practice has shown positive results on sugar levels. Sufferer even visualizes the accurate functioning of pancreas, correct insulin administration in the body is helpful in cure of diabetes.
